The series is comprised of five books, each of which follows Percy and his friends as they battle various monsters, gods, and other mythical creatures from Greek mythology.

The series begins with “The Lightning Thief,” in which Percy discovers that he is a demigod, the son of Poseidon. He is sent to Camp Half-Blood, a summer camp for demigods, where he meets other demigods, including Annabeth Chase, the daughter of Athena, and Grover, a satyr. Together, they embark on a quest to find Zeus’s (God Of thunder’s) stolen lightning bolt and clear Percy’s name.
